Obituary of Dr. William J. Gill, Jr.
Wyoming - Dr. William J. Gill, Jr., 75, of Tampa, FL, formerly of the Wyoming area, passed away Wednesday, January 11, 2012, at 8:30 a.m., in Oak Hill Hospital, Brooksville, FL. His wife and family were present at his side.
He was born September 17, 1936 in Peoria, Il to Clement and Dorothy Turner Gill. They preceded him in death. His is survived by his wife, Sheree Vinson Gill, daughter, Heather (David) Wasp, Vilas, N.C. and grandchildren, William, Sean and Sarah Wasp. Also surviving are brother, James W. (Marylou) Gill of Bloomington, Il, sister Yvonne (Richard) Bogner of Speer, Il, brother Gene (Joanne) Gill of Wyoming, Il and brother David (Virginia) Gill of Peoria, IL.
He graduated from Northwestern Dental School, Chicago, Il and was a Captain in the U.S. Air Force. After his service, he opened a dental practice in Tampa. In his later years, he became a dentist for many physically and developmentally handicapped patients. He was Past President of The Florida Dental Congress and also, Past President of The Florida West Coast Dental Association.
Bill loved to play golf in Florida and North Carolina. He was a fan of the Northwestern Big Ten Sports, St. Louis Cardinals and Buccaneers. At five foot two, one hundred twenty pounds, he was the starting halfback on his Wyoming High School football team, making four touchdowns in one memorable game.
A funeral Mass was said on Saturday, January 14, in Tampa. A memorial Mass will be said at 10:30 a.m.Wednesday, January 18, 2012, at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Camp Grove. Rev. Father Vien Van Do will officiate. A private family burial will take place at St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Camp Grove.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The American Diabetes Association or to St. Patrick Catholic Church for Masses.
